I finally made the switch to the Motorola Droid from the iPhone. But before I get there I want to give you some info on what got me to that point. About a week ago I had decided I wanted to get the Google Nexus One. I went to google.com/phone/, filled out the form, though about it before I hit submit and then waited as it was "checking my eligability". It came back with the following message:
T-Mobile cannot determine your eligibility at this time. Please contact T-Mobile Customer support with further questions.
So, I got on the phone and contacted T-Mobile. I told the rep that I was an old T-Mobile customer but no longer with them and was getting an error trying to buy the Nexus One. She ran my credit and validated that I should be able to purchase the phone with the full discount. She then told me to email Google which I did. After that I started reading on the Google Help Forums about other people with the same problem. It seems that is it because of my old account causing an error when Google checks T-Mobile Web Services to validate eligibility (Good luck trying to explain that to a rep). So I called T-Mobile and explained everything again and this time they gave me a phone number to call which I assumed was Google. When I called that number I explained what was going on and asked if I was speaking with Google. Nope, he was from HTC. He confirmed that it was the old account causing problems and told me to call T-Mobile and email Google...which I did...again. This time when I spoke to T-Mobile I thought I was getting somewhere. After explaining everything again, she called HTC, had a conference call with them, and finally came back saying she had a solution. She just needed to send me to sales where they would setup a new account with the same plan that you would get when ordering the Nexus One with a full discount. And then after 24 hours I would be able to order the phone through the form with the discount. She said she would explain this to sales and then transfer me. After getting to sales I asked him if I was going to be ordering the T-Mobile version with the discount or the unlocked version. He said it would be the unlocked version which was not was the rep before said. At this point we went back and forth and I asked for a supervisor. He pretty much told me the same thing and then tried selling me the T-Mobile MyTouch. That's where I gave up and decided it wasn't worth the trouble (3 hours of being on the phone).
And I am glad I didn't go with them anyway as I'm seeing reports that the T-Mobile service is spotty. I've seen this first hand on a friend's Nexus One. He used to have the Motorola Droid that I now have. The Nexus One phone itself seems great but I'd rather Verizon or AT&T. So being that there was this Motorola Droid that wasn't being used I decided to test it out. See my next post about my testing and Verizon activation experience.
Where To Get GeoLife?
Thread Starter: lukemI've read about this app Geolife which sounds really cool. Its a location based task/reminder service so it sends you alerts when you get close to places
